An Adventure With Franny and Doris
Way back when… two young ladies, Doris and Franny, would take the ferry boat to Tolchester Beach Amusement Park.
Now, their money was very tight, and they couldn’t afford to waste it on proper ticketing. Doris and Franny always had a plan.
One day they boarded the ferry boat and purchased a single ticket. A few boys notice this and ask the two, “why did you only buy one ticket?” Doris, in her sweet little voice, says sternly, ”watch and learn.”
Just before the ticketing agent came along the two women hid in the lady’s room and the conductor knocks, saying, “ticket, please.”
The door opens, and an outstretched hand delivers up the ticket!
After a great day the two young ladies board the boat, as do the same boys.
The same boys who only bought one ticket this time (liking the plan Doris and Franny had).
However, the boys notice the girls didn’t buy any tickets.
“Huh?” the boys ask, “Why didn’t you buy any tickets this time?”
Once again Doris responds, “watch and learn”.
At that point the boys cram into the men’s room and the ladies do the same. But Franny leaves her room, walks over to the boy’s room, knocks on the door and in her deepest voice says “Ticket Please”!
Now my Aunt Franny and my mom Doris really did go to Tolchester Beach as kids.
One of those times back in the late 1930s or early 40’s my mom found a $10 bill in the rest room at Tolchester Beach.
She put it in her shoe and on the way back on the ferry, she told her older sister Franny about it.
Wise Fran explained she must never tell any-one that she had that much money and the two of them slowly spent the fortune over a summer and a fall!
I’m getting choked up now… so that is all I can say about that!
Miss you forever Mommy!
THE MANY SPEED LIMITS OF A BOAT
I have never read it, heard about it, or talked about it, but what are the speed limits of a boat?
- The boat’s top possible speed with all conditions and all components being perfect
- The speed that the conditions and components will allow
- The speed that your wife, or mother-in-law will allow
- The speed at which the current or your level of tiredness will allow (especially with paddling types)
- The marked speed limit for the waterway
- The speed that the tow captain choses to tow you when things go wrong
- The attained downward speed your boat achieves as you forgot about that waterfall you just went over
- The maximum reverse speed possible because you remembered the waterfall
- The speed you can paddle when you see that shark fin and think of JAWS
- Going home on the trailer behind the truck after an amazing day out on the Chesapeake Bay!
Checking in with Jake the Water Person:
Speaking of Rock Hall’s Pirates and Wenches weekend
Jake has decided to gather his whole family together the very same weekend for a family reunion. Just so happens a few older family members talk about great grandparents who were actual pirates!
Jake knows his family well and who they still are today. Jake’s family has been on the Chesapeake in Rock Hall and Gratitude for many generations, and this year everyone is coming home from abroad.
So, while you’re at the Pirate and Wenches weekend BEWARE!!! There might be a few real pirates in your midst!
Non-Boating Humans Did
At this point what didn’t they do?
It is opening weekend at Eastern Yacht Club, June 11h. I’m sitting in my office listening to some live music from Willy T’s in Key West looking out the window at the downpour.
I think the non-boating humans have seeded the clouds again. Last week they were using the wind machine and next week I’m expecting fire andbrimstone out of them.
Anything to mess up the beginning of a Baycation. I’m pretty sure the gas prices are set by the NBH’s.
They are also the ones that are willing to put perfectly good vodka into our gasoline!
Those Damn NBHs @#$%^!@#!
At it again & again
Do You Think It Is A Bit Weird? You Know It Is August Already?
Seems to me it shouldn’t be.
Seems to me it was June just a few days ago! Why doesn’t the winter time fly by like that?
I sure wish I knew a way to get these summer days and nights to last just a little longer.
Now I have made some suggestions over the past year or so, but when you are having this much fun it is just way too hard.
With wine festivals, pirate and wenchs weekend, fishing tournaments, music festivals and a thousand other amazing thing to do on the Upper Bay, it is no wonder these summers fly by.
I hope yours do also!
